Sportsmanship

Muhammad Shaheen
Sportsmanship

Today the topic of my speech is sportsmanship. Sports are not merely the physical exercise but they are in fact a whole code of conduct. They not only shape up the body of a person but also his personality and brain. I mean that sports lend vigour and stamina to our physique give stength and give to our moral aspect. They are actually a part of a person's education and not mere fun and joy. In this sense sports teach us a lot in our real life.
The aspects of sportsmanship are patience, understanding, and respect. Sportsmanship means behaviour that's fair, honest, and polite in a game or sports competition. Sportsman is a person who can take a loss or defeat without complaint, or victory without gloating, and who treats his opponents with fairness, generosity and courtesy.
This is the quality which we need at the time when we winning or losing the game. It is a display of mutual respect for opponents and officials. It creates a kind of positive atmosphere that will make it possible for every participant to feel proud of their own efforts and results (no matter what the scoreboard shows) and acknowledge the efforts of their teammates, opponents and referees.
And this is what we all need in every walk of life.

Hard Work Is The Key To Success

Muhammad Shaheen

Honourable President and my dear audience!
Today I am going to express my views on a very important topic that is hard work can change the luck. I would like to express my views in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
Yes, hard work can change luck. Allah says in the Holy Quran:

Verily will never God change the condition of a people until they can change it themselves.

Yet is each individual pledge for his deeds.
The Holy Prophet says:

It means laboureres are the friends of ALLAH.
From all the above verses and hadith we can infer that hard work can change the luck rather luck can be achieved with hard work.
There is nothing for a man except what he struggles for. It is a fact universally and historically admitted that even a small insect does not get its food without scratching the earth, the leave s or the roots. Without hectic search for food no creature of God can survive. This is the world of those who never sit idle to kill their precious time. To sustain one’s life everybody needs continuous sweated labour.
My listeners!
Every man is the architect of his own fate. We find thousands of examples in the history of mankind which presents to us a magnificent spactcle of men and events across the passage of centuries. Thousands of great luminaries who made repeated efforts for their astounding achievements are shining like stars in the sky. The names of hardworking and brave persons which come into my mind are Muhammad Bin Qasim, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and so on. If we look beyond this scenario there are names of thos military men who performed such heroic deeds because of which they not only won name, fame and rank but also set the best example of our national honour. It’s a great saying that everyday you do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow.
My Dear Audience!
If I keep on relating the stories of brave hard working great men it would take the whole time and I won’t be able to finish eve the list.
The Prophet SAW says:
.
Our national Poet Philospher Dr. M. Iqbal has repeatedly emphasized the importance of hard work and has also lamented the fatalist elements among the Ummah. He says
God never changes the life conditions of those people who do not have the will to change it themselves.
Only plants and animals are limited by the rules of fate. Man is only guided by the device rules.
Respected president
In this world there is survival of fittest. Only those people can survive who are hard working and can swim in the sea of postmodernism.
Today Europe and America are ruling the world because of their hard work. Look at any champion in the world .He has gained the position only through hard work. You cannot pinpoint a single person who has achieved the top position without hard work.
Agreat pushtu poet Rehman Baba says
Why should you look for reading lines of your palm? Ones own deeds are his palmistry.
There is a famous saying in pushto:
Luck is like a tamed donkey. It will take you where you want to drive him.
Mr. President!
So in the end I’ll say that luck will be made by a person himself and the only thing is hard work.
That’s all.
Thank you

Enlightened Moderation (Against the Topic)

Honourable President and my Dear Audience

Today the topic about which I am going to give my ideas is "Enlightened Moderation is Curse". To the ideas of the supporters of Enlightened Moderation I’ll do my best to explain as to what it is.
In fact, "Enlightenment" and "Moderation" are not just two catchy expressions; these denote some appealing notions. These two attributes would stand out as the distinct features of Islam as a religion and civilization. The Qur’an has, therefore, described the Muslim Ummah as a Moderate Community. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also declared moderation and the middle road as the best course.
Seen in this backdrop, it would sound strange if someone objects to the current talk about ‘Enlightened Moderation’.
My Listeners!
But the problem is that what is being tried to persuade today as ‘Enlightened Moderation’ actually does not come from our own socio-cultural background, our own traditions, or our own values and requirements. Unfortunately, it forms part of a historical process. It has assumed special significance for the world in general and the Muslim world in particular whose politico-civilizational map is being given a new shape and complexion. When we look at things in the global context, it becomes evident that the call for ‘Enlightened Moderation’ is related directly to external pressures and demands.
Honourable President!
What is the new world order? What does it want? The new world order being currently devised is the most comprehensive and solemn account of the Neo-Colonialism in which the military, political, economic and cultural aspects assume equal importance. Its objective is not just to bring all the countries and nations under the political and military umbrella of the only super power of the unipolar world, but also to impose on them a single value system, intellectually, economically, financially and culturally. The venture is intended to be a success through the use of all possible means of maltreatment as well as cooperation, carrot and stick.
My Dear Audience!
Action in fact started deftly on this multi-dimensional strategy following the end of the cold war. The post-9/11 measures are part of the same broad-based strategy. Unless we understand this, it would be difficult to exactly know the meaning and purpose of this campaign in favour of the so-called ‘Enlightenment’ and ‘Moderation’. This ‘Enlightened Moderation’ has definitely no relevance to our own needs. It is related neither to our socio-cultural moorings. It is instead a pointer to the change being contemplated for removing Islam and the Muslim society and culture from their own basis to synchronize them with the Western demands. This is not a new phenomenon. Such attempts have been there from the very first day of the imperialist attack, which have now taken the central stage of the current imperialist bombardment.
Dear Listeners!
Ever since the last quarter of the past century, the US intellectuals, policy makers and the media have been engaged in a new civilizational war, with an objective to superimpose the West’s liberal socio-economic order over the world at large.
This is the real dilemma! And the proposed solution is to propagate the strategy of Enlightened Moderation in the Muslim countries in such a way as to brighten the prospects of shaking them by their foundations and baptizing them on the Western lines. That is the reason why the Muslim women’s ‘Hijab’ is now being viewed as more dangerous than artillery guns and missiles. The Muslims allegiance to Islam and their love for their culture, values and traditions are the biggest obstacle in the way of the attainment of the West’s aims and objectives. Another biggest hurdle is the indivisibility of the state and religion in Islam.
Dear Audience!
With this background, the American and European intellectuals and policy making institutions are engaged now in their concerted drive to divide the Muslim World into the two categories of (i) Fundamentalists and Militants and (ii) the Liberals, Enlightened and Moderates. Their agenda is to systematically eliminate those whom they view as fundamentalists and ‘Jehadis’ capable to resist, and replace them by those whom they think are ‘endowed’ with the "liberal vision of Islam".
My Dear Listeners!
I would say to my opponents with solid proofs that Enlightened Moderation is an ignorance that cannot be "a blessing" But if it is part of a deliberate maneuver, then the exponents should remember that whosoever amongst his predecessors from Iskandar Mirza to Ayub Khan has ventured to toe this pro-West approach has eventually had to lick his own wounds.
Honourable President!
The Muslim Ummah will never accept the secular approach to life. The real objective of the ‘New US Religious Order’ is to introduce in the Muslim World a system which based on the division between the spiritual and the temporal and the religion and politics. This ‘New Religious Order’ seeks to promote a ruthless view of Islam, that restricts religion to homes and mosques, while the entire affairs of life are run according to the precepts and ideologies suited to the West. It is an order that aims at holding the Shariah in abeyance and Jehad abrogated. Such a development would however, mean an open declaration of war against Allah and his Last Messenger (PBUH).
My Listeners!
The exponents of this nasty approach have begun mixing up Jihad and the popular struggle for freedom with ‘terrorism’. Now, they have openly come out as a Champion of ‘Enlightened Moderation’. They equate the upsurge for Islamic renaissance with terrorism and are apprehensive of a possible clash between the Islamic civilization and the global forces of oppression and tyranny. They are, therefore, advocating ‘enlightened moderation’ and ‘liberalism’ as the panacea for all ills of the world. They are at pains to impress that there is no contradiction between Islam and ‘Modernism – Secularism’ and the two can walk hand in hand. It is for the first time that they are now openly supporting Secularism. The cat of ‘Enlightenment’ has thus come out of the bag. It does not remain a secret any more which way he is leading the country and to what end in view. There is nothing new as such in their advocacy of liberalism. We have been listening to such sermons since well over one hundred years. Allama Iqbal had, therefore, cautioned the Muslim Ummah to beware of those Muslim intellectuals and rulers who due to their own ideological and cultural bankruptcy have often served as the mouthpiece of the West.
Honourable President
The actual enlightenment and moderation for a Muslim are to follow the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in letter and spirit. These are in fact built-in in our social order as a Muslim community and there is no need for importing it from elsewhere, or for any process of pick and choose to suit others’ whims and demands. As we all know, there is no room for any additions or omissions and rejections or acceptance in Allah’s Deen and there can be no crime bigger than any such attempts, about which we have been warned of the disadvantages in the worldly life and the worst punishment in the Hereafter. The Islamic concept of enlightenment and moderation is part of the overall Shariah paradigm. It cannot be separated from this Whole. The parameters laid down by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to keep the Muslim Ummah always on the right track determine the boundary lines of the enlightenment and moderation.
Dear Audience!
In a nutshell, I would say that our Pakistani rulers are speaking the mind of the American and Western intellectuals. If we are accepting this approach, we are fulfilling their wishes, we are completing their long awaited missions, we are proving them to be true in all respects of their world affairs.
Is it enlightened moderation that most of PTV actors are adopting nakedness, throwing hijab, TV dramas and film industry are now openly showing obscenity, nudity, and pornographic dialogues? Is it the positive side of this so-called moderation? Media has been curbed and the reporters are arrested. Do you think it right when you see the merciless killing of your own innocent students at Lal Masjid? Is it the result of enlightened moderation? Is it justice to have brutal bloodshed of innocent people in Swat region?
Mr. President!
If somebody invites me to adopt this sort moderation I would never go even near it. God forbid! It is nothing but an intrigue against Islam and Pakistan at the hands of our own rulers and leaders.
Honourable President!
In the end I would like to say to supporters of enlightened moderation with great apology that during the colonial days, a series of all similar attempts by alien rulers met with failure. The attempts have been on subsequently to get the job done through their native allies. But we should positively hope that all such attempts would meet their ignominious end. Neither Emperor Akbar could succeed in imposing his adaptation of Secularism with the name of "Deen Illahi", nor George W. Bush of America would ever be in a position to get through with his dream of a new religious order. The best course left for us is to strengthen our own Islamic values and traditions and sincerely try to improve the socio-economic lot of the Muslim masses according to the models available with us for a multi-dimensional progress and development in this world and the Hereafter. Islam has been the target of attacks sometimes from outside, sometimes from within, sometimes covertly and sometimes overtly and often through distortions, or in the name of ‘enlightened’ re-interpretation. May God save our country not from the curse of enlightened moderation but from the enlightened extremism!
Thank you

Enlightened Moderation

Honourable President and My Dear Listeners!

The topic of our debate is "Enlightened Moderation Is a Blessing".
That is the reason why Islam has decreed ‘Adl’ , which stands for moderation and balance, in matters concerning one’s faith, actions, the life of an individual in a society, his community life, worship rituals, economy and even in matters concerning friendship, war and peace. A man is accountable in Islam for all that he does. This sense of accountability depends on his awareness, his power of discretion and enlightenment. It also helps to check bias and imbalance. The Qur’an has, therefore, described the Muslim Ummah as ‘Ummatan Wasatan’ (a Moderate Community). The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also declared moderation and the middle road as the best course. He said: "Khair ul Umoori Ausatuhaa" (Moderation is the best course.)
But
My Dear Audience!
In the recent past the different events have brought the Muslim world to a state of emergency. The international perception of Muslims as violent extremists has placed the moderate, peaceful and faithful Muslims at odds with the world. The proliferation of suicide bombers and the events of 9/11 have bred a deep fear in the West about Islam and its followers, and the historical conflicts indifferent parts of the world such as in Bosnia, Chechnya, Kashmir, Israel and Afghanistan further agitate the relationship.
Before the anti Soviet, Afghan War started, the Palestine dispute alone was the cause of unrest or concern in the Muslim world which led to a general unification of Muslims in favour of Palestinians and against Israel. The Afghan war of the 80s, supported and facilitated by the West, against the Soviet Union, saw the emergence and nurturing of pro- Islamic militancy. Islam as a religion was used to harness mass, worldwide Muslim support. Subsequently, the atrocities and ethnic cleansing against Muslims in Bosnia, the Chechen uprising, Kashmir freedom struggle and invigorated Palestinian Intifada all erupted in the 90’s after the Soviet disintegration. To make matters worse the militancy sparked in Afghanistan which needed to be defused after the end of the Cold War, was allowed to fester for the whole decade of 90s. This festering wound of Afghanistan with fighters from the entire Muslim world existing within the period of upheaval in other Muslim nations turned multidirectional, looking for new conflict zones where Muslims were suffering.

This saw the birth of Al-Qaeda. All this while the Palestinian Intifada kept gathering momentum, uniting and angering Muslims across the globe. Then came the horror of 9/11 and the angry reaction of US against Taleban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. All subsequent reactions of the US, their domestic responses against Muslims, their attitude towards Palestine and operation in Iraq led to total polarisation of the Muslim masses against the US. Why this needs to be recapitulate is to prove that it is not Islam as a religion which preaches or infuses militancy and extremism but the political disputes which led to antagonism in the Muslim masses. All this is history now. What has been done cannot be undone. But this situation cannot be allowed to fester. For the sake of universal harmony, a remedy has to be found. The cry of the day is for the West to resolve the political disputes enumerated above with justice as their part of the commitment to the strategy of Enlightened Moderation.

Dear Audience!
All the intellectuals and men of deep insight have harshly criticized those faithful people who are disturbing the world with their unlawful attacks due to which Islam has fallen form its high pedestal. Extremists jeopardize relations with the rest of the world and moderate Muslims are dragged down with their negative agenda.
My Listeners!
OUR world is passing through a tumultuous period ever since the dawn of the 90s, with no signs of giving up. The suffering of the innocent multitudes, particularly the Muslim brethren in faith at the hands of the militants, extremists, terrorists, have made a disorderly situation in the world. It was this very urge which led Parwez Musharraf to expound the strategy of Enlightened Moderation.
My Listeners!
It is quiet true when our president says that this world has become an extremely dangerous place to live in. The devastating power of plastic explosives, combined with hi-tech, remotely controlled activation means superimposed by a proliferation of suicide bombers have become a lethal combination beyond any effective counter. The unfortunate reality is that both, the perpetrators of the crime as well as most of the sufferers from it are Muslims. This has inevitably made non-Muslims believe, wrongfully, that Islam is a religion of intolerance, militancy and terrorism. This thesis is rapidly evolving across the globe: connecting Islam to fundamentalism, fundamentalism to extremism and extremism to terrorism.
We can protest, however vigorously, against this labelling, but the reality is that such arguments are not likely to win this formidable battle of minds against us. To compound our apathy further, we are probably the poorest, most uneducated, most powerless and the most disunited in the world.
The stark reality that faces anyone with compassion for this common heritage of mankind - our world, mother earth - is, what legacy we want to leave for our future generations? On the other side, the challenge that confronts the Muslims is to drag ourselves out of the pit we find ourselves in, through individual exaltation and collective socio-economic emancipation. Something has to be done quickly to stop this carnage in the world and for the Muslims to stem the downward slide, if we are to prevent ourselves from being marginalized.
My idea for untangling this Gordian knot is the strategy of Enlightened Moderation which I think is a win for all - the Muslim and the non Muslim world. This is a two-pronged strategy. The role by the Muslim world involves shunning militancy, extremism and adopting the path of socio-economic uplift. The other role to be played by the West, and the US in particular, must aim at resolutely resolving all political disputes with justice and also assisting in the socio-economic uplift of the deprived Muslim world.
I would like to explain the logic of the strategy of Enlightened Moderation and elaborate on the methodology for the Muslim world to execute its part of the strategy. First of all we need to understand that the root cause of extremism and militancy lies in political injustice, denial and deprivation. Political injustice to a nation or a people when combined with stark poverty and illiteracy makes the explosive mix leading towards an acute sense of deprivation, hopelessness and powerlessness. A people suffering from a combination of all these lethal ills are easily available cannon fodder for the propagation of militancy and the perpetration of extremist, terrorist acts.

I would now like to turn to the Muslim World, for whom my heart weeps. What we need today is self-introspection. Who are we, what do we as Muslims stand for, where are we going, where we should be headed and how we can reach there? The answers to all these questions, I see as the Muslim prong of the strategy of Enlightened Moderation.

We have had a glorious past. Islam exploded on the world scene as flag bearer of a just, lawful, tolerant and value oriented society. We had faith in human exaltation through knowledge and enlightenment. We exemplified tolerance within ourselves and with people of other faiths. The Armies of Islam did not march forward to convert people to Islam through the sword, despite what perceptions may be, but to deliver them from the darkness they were under, through the visible example of their virtues. What better projection can be found of these deeper values of Islam than the example of our great Prophet (peace be upon him) who personified justice, compassion, tolerance, generosity of spirit, austerity with a spirit of sacrifice, and a burning desire for raising humanity to a better world?
Mr. President!
The Muslim world today is distant from all these values. We have been left far behind in social, moral and economic development. Unfortunately during our decline we remained in our own shell and refused to learn from others. We thus reached the present depths of despair and despondency. We need to face stark realities. Is the way ahead one of confrontation and militancy? Will this path lead us to our past glory and also show the light of progress and development to the world?
Mr. President!
My Muslim brothers, the time for renaissance has come. The way forward is to head towards enlightenment and concentrate on human resource development through poverty alleviation, education, health and social justice. If this be our direction, it cannot be achieved through a confrontationist approach. We have to adopt the path of moderation and a conciliatory approach to wash off the common belief that Islam is a religion of militancy and is also in conflict with modernization, democracy and secularism. All this has to be done with a realization that, in the world we live in, the doctrine of fairness is not always available to us. This is our prong of the strategy of Enlightened Moderation which we need to deliver.

We have to show resolve, rise above self-interests for our common good in the very spirit that Islam teaches us.
Mr. President!
As I have always said, we should not judge other's morality. This is purely everyone's personal matter. If someone wears a jeans or hijab we should respect them equally. This is what is tolerance advocated by our religion.
The world at large and the powers that be must realize that confrontation and use of force is no more the option available to bring ultimate peace. Justice must be done and seen to be done. Let it not be said by our future generations that we, the leaders of today took humanity towards destruction.

Character Building

CHARACTER BUILDING
Dear Audience
Today the topic of my speech is "Character Building"
Character means the particular combination of qualities that makes someone a particular kind of person. In other words, it is one's behaviour, morals, ideas, vision, endurandc, will-power, forebearance, integrity, courage, understanding, the power of articulation which dtermines one's character. Our character is what we do when we think that no one is looking.
The question is how to develop it and what would be the impact of individual character on the national character?
Character is a by-product; it is produced in the great manufacture of daily duty.

The Dignity of Labour

Muhammad Shaheen
The Dignity of Labour

Respected Audience!

Today the topic of my speech is “The Dignity of Labour” Work is indeed God’s blessing. Without it life seems to be meaningless, flat and a useless thing. Only useful and noble activity is a blessing. Negative action is a curse. Even the sweeper’s work is much sacred aof a lawyer, teacher or a shopkeeper. Joseph Conard has rightly said “Man is a worker. If he is not , he is nothing.”

Dear Audience!
A busy man is a healthy man. Idleness tells upon heath. Men do not break down from overwork but they break down from overeating, worry and dissipation. Work always generates optimism. All growth depends on activity. It is work that leads to self discovery and self-confidence.

Dear Audience!

Once a man came to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) begging for something to live on. The Prophet gave him an axe and a rope and advised him to collect some wood and sell it and live on it price. The next day the man came to the Holy Prophet and said that the hard work of felling trees gave him contentment and pleasure. The bread earned through his sweat was the sweetest he had ever relished.

In the light of such examples we should work, work and work and then we are bound to succeed in life.

That's all.

Thank You
